Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin

Newly-appointed Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin has pledged to make lives of people easier by improving their living standards.

He came up with the promise at a view-exchange meeting with the officials of the commerce ministry at the secretariat on Monday.

On Sunday, Sheikh Bashir Uddin was sworn in as the commerce adviser of the interim government. It was his first interaction with the officials of his ministry after his assumption of responsibility.

"We don't expect any magic from you. We'll work together. You'll find me as an associate. I'll try my best to make your responsibility more smooth and effective," Mr. Uddin said.

He deplored the fact that purchasing capacity of people has diminished due to the rising inflation.

He underlined the importance of expanding trade and business to overcome the economic shocks. "It is possible to do well if we can expand trade and business. We can achieve positive results," said the commerce adviser.

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Commerce Secretary Md Selim Uddin, Additional Secretary Mohammad Navid Safiullah and Director General of the Trade Organization Md. Abdur Rahim Khan.
