New platform LDF set to be launched for leather sector dev

FE REPORT | October 22, 2022 00:00:00

A platform named 'Leather Development Forum (LDF)' is going to be launched in the country with the aim of developing the country's tannery sector, reveals an official document.

The platform is likely to be formally launched on October 24 in Dhaka.

In 2018, the Asian Foundation began implementing a project to promote decent work and acceptable working conditions in the tannery industry.

The project is sensitising tannery management, supervisors and workers about tannery in-house waste management, occupational Health and Safety (OHS), chemical management, pre-treatment facility, and recycling solid waste among others, according to the document.

Several organisations and projects in Bangladesh are carrying out different activities for the development of the leather sector.

To ensure that these interventions are as effective and sustainable as possible and to create synergies, greater coordination, and collaboration, and to avoid duplication among these organisations, the Foundation, in consultation with GIZ, focused on establishing the platform, LDF, added the document.

The Foundation, under the Promoting Decent Work and Acceptable Working Conditions in the Tannery Sector in Bangladesh project, reached out to various organisations working for the betterment of the leather sector to be a part of the LDF, where most agreed.
