B'desh-Myanmar border trade on upswing

The border trade between Myanmar and Bangladesh reached US$ 22 million in earlier of the month of the current fiscal year (2017-18). The amount showed an increase of $13 million as of February 09 compared with the same period last fiscal year, a Myanmar media outlet reported quoting the country's Ministry of Commerce. Border exports between the two countries this year increased by more than $21.75 million, compared with the last fiscal whereas the value of border imports was $0.567 million, reports Mizzima News. Border trade between the two countries is conducted through the Sittway and Maungtaw cross-border trade camps. From the last April through February, trade through the Maungtaw gate reached $10.928 million, while that of the Sittway border point amounted to $10.831 million.— FE Report

ICMAB elects new office bearers

In its council meeting held Sunday, the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) elected Mohammed Salim as president for 2018. The council also elected M. Abul Kalam Mazumdar and Arif Khan as vice-presidents, Md. Abdur Rahman Khan as secretary and Professor Swapan Kumar Bala as treasurer of the institute. Mohammed Salim was also President of the ICMAB in 2014. He served the institute as vice president, secretary, and treasurer in different terms. He was also the chairman of Dhaka Branch Council of the ICMAB in the year 2001. Mohammed Salim is currently working as Senior Financial Management Consultant at Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU) of IMED, Ministry of Planning, Government of Bangladesh. M. Abul Kalam Mazumdar is a senior fellow member of the institute. He also served the ICMAB as president in 2000 and chairman of Dhaka branch council. Md. Abdur Rahman Khan is currently working as deputy secretary in Finance Division of the Ministry of Finance of the government. — Statement
