Banks in poll areas to remain closed Mar 10

All the branches of scheduled banks will remain closed on March 10 in the election areas across the country, according to a circular of Bangladesh Bank (BB). The branches of the commercial banks at 83 upazilas under 12 districts in four divisions across the country will remain closed to enable bank officials and employees to cast their votes in the first phase of Upazila Election. The areas where banks will remain closed include Panchagarh Sadar, Atwari, Bodha, Debiganj and Tetulia upazillas under Panchagarh district, Bhurungamari, Fulbari, Ulipur, Nagessor, Razarhat, Rajib Pur, Kurigram Sadar, Chilmari and Raomari upazillas under Kurigram district, Domar, Dimla, Nilphamari Sadar, Jaldhaka, Saidpur and Kishoreganj upazilas under Nilphamari district, Pathgram, Hathibanda, Lalmonirhat Sadar, Kaliganj and Aditmari upazillas under Lalmonirhat District in Rangpur Division.

Speaker urges expatriates to invest in BD

Speaker of the Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury urged expatriates to invest in Bangladesh as an investment-friendly environment prevails here. "The social and economic development of the country is now a visible. Bangladesh's capacity by all indexes has now reached a new height," the speaker said when the Speaker of East London's Tower Hamlets Mohammad Ayas Miah paid a courtesy call on her. During the meeting they discussed different issues, including parliamentary affairs, country's l development and investment, said an official release this evening. Referring to the role of the expatriates for country's development and progress, Dr Chaudhury said Bangladesh citizens, working abroad, are contributing to the country's economy, simultaneously, earning foreign currency and also upholding the image of the country abroad. The Bangladesh Speaker congratulated Ayas Miah for his election as the Speaker of Tower Hamlets. Ayas recalled the existing good relations between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom and hoped that the relations would be strengthened in the days to come.
