Rajshahi and Khulna city corporations have launched fortnight-long tax collection drives in separate programmes in the two cities, reports BSS.

The Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) started its fortnight-long holding tax collection programme aimed at infusing dynamism in its tax collection system.

On the occasion, RCC councilors accompanied by its officials and employees brought out a colourful rally from the City Bhaban premises on Tuesday.

After parading some of the main city streets, the rally returned to the City Bhaban premises where a meeting was also held.

RCC Panel Mayor Rajab Ali, ward councilors Nizam-Ul-Azim, Ruhul Amin and Abdul Momin and Chief Revenue Officer Shahan Akhter Jahan addressed the meeting.

The speakers urged the city dwellers to pay holding and other taxes in due time for successful implementation of the development programmes.

Khulna City Corporation Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque inaugurated the 'Fortnight Tax Collection Fair of KCC-2019' by releasing balloons on the day.

Addressing the programme, Mayor Khaleque urged citizens as well as both public and private organisations authorities to pay taxes regularly to help the government to carry out development activities.

"We will have no way other than cut-off KCC's utility services in future if tax defaulters do not pay dues in time," he said.

"I am committed to build the green and clean city which would be eco-friendly and free from water-logging. KCC has taken many projects to materialise its commitment in shortest possible time," he said.
