PKSF to impart training to 12,000 youths

Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) will provide skills training to 12,000 more disadvantaged youths by 2020, aiming to develop demand-driven workforce in the country.

The PKSF and the Finance Division, Ministry of Finance, signed the renewal of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this end on Tuesday.

The PKSF will implement the second phase of the Skills for Employment Investment Programme (SEIP) project involving Tk 628.40 million (62.84 crore).

It will receive the total amount as grant through the government.

Abdur Rouf Talukdar, additional secretary and National Project Director (SEIP), Finance Division, and Md Fazlul Kader, deputy managing director (Programme) of PKSF, signed the MoU at the PKSF office in the city.

Md Abdul Karim, managing director of PKSF (former principal secretary), and Jalal Ahmed, additional secretary and executive project director (SEIP), Finance Division, were present at the ceremony.

The project is financed jointly by the government, Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

The project will be implemented across the country through recognised training institutions.

Participants of the training programmes will be offered job placement services.

PKSF will select the participants from the disadvantaged youths under its microfinance programmes through its partner organisations.

The second phase of the project will be completed in three years.

In the first phase of the project implemented from 2015 to 2017, 10,000 participants received skills training in different trades and 71 per cent of them secured jobs.
