Rampal generates over 760m units of electricity in April

May 04, 2026 00:00:00

The Maitree Super Thermal Power Plant (Rampal), a joint venture between Bangladesh and India, generated over 760 million units (kWh) of electricity in April 2026.

It operated at a Plant Load Factor (PLF) of 80 per cent during the month. When it was scorching heat and heavy demand in the grid, in the first week of April, it generated at a PLF of 97 per cent. The plant contributed more than 9 per cent of Bangladesh's total electricity generation during the month, says a press release.

This marks the fifth occasion on which Rampal has exceeded 700 million units of monthly generation, reflecting sustained operational performance and reliability while ensuring care for the environment.

April witnessed elevated temperatures and increased electricity demand across Bangladesh, placing additional pressure on generation resources. During this period, Rampal maintained high availability and efficiency, contributing significantly to grid stability and continuity of supply.

Rampal is equipped with modern, high-efficiency units and advanced emission control systems, including Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD), designed to align with prevailing environmental standards while delivering dependable baseload power.

Ramanath Pujari, Managing Director, BIFPCL said, "Operating at around 80 per cent PLF during a period of peak demand reflects the plant's capability to deliver consistent and reliable power. This level of performance is the result of strong operational practices and sustained team effort."
