November 22, 2024 00:00:00

Russia has announced it will supply 30,000 tonnes of Muriate of Potash (MoP) fertiliser to Bangladesh free of charge, reaffirming the friendship and deep sincerity between the two countries.

The announcement was made by Dmitry Konyaev, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Uralchem Group, Russia's second-largest ammonia and nitrogen fertiliser manufacturer, in a letter to Bangladesh's Ministry of Agriculture, said an official release.

Uralchem works towards ensuring global food security, reports BSS.

Acting Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Bangladesh Ekaterina Semenova formally handed over the letter to Agriculture Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury in Dhaka on Wednesday.

The fertiliser will be supplied free of cost under the World Food Programme (WFP) of the United Nations, the release added.

In 2013, Uralkali PJSC, a Russia-based producers and exporters of potash fertiliser, also supplied one million tonnes of MoP fertilizer to Bangladesh under government-to-government contract.
