S Korea's online shopping posts double-digit growth

SEOUL, Apr 04 (Xinhua): Online shopping in South Korea posted a double-digit growth in February as demand for food delivery services increased during the period of the Winter Olympics, a government report showed Wednesday.

Shopping in the cyberspace amounted to 7.9 trillion won (7.5 billion U.S. dollars) in February, up 11.6 per cent from a year earlier, according to Statistics Korea.

The 23rd Winter Olympics, which was hosted by the country in the month, strengthened demand for food delivery services as people watched the games while eating convenient food.

Online sales of food and beverage jumped 41.1 per cent, with the food services surging 70.6 per cent.

The Lunar New Year's holiday, which fell in February this year, raised demand for agricultural, livestock and fishery products, which advanced 73.8 percent in the month.
