Salam Air to operate Ctg-Muscat flights

FE REPORT | September 29, 2019 00:00:00

Salam Air, Oman's first budget airline, is scheduled to operate direct flights from Muscat to Chattogram from October 07, the second destination in Bangladesh after Dhaka.

Initially, there will be four weekly flights on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The flight will arrive in Chattogram at 8:40 pm and depart for Muscat at 9:25 pm.

This summer schedule will continue until October 27. The schedule will change in the winter arriving at 1:45 pm in Chattogram and departing at 2:30 pm towards Muscat.

Salam Air country manager M Shahabuddin told the FE that the airliner will operate weekly seven flights from 2020.

"We have 10 Airbus 320 neo aircraft in the fleet - seven are brand new and three leased. The Chattogram flights will be operated with A320 neo with a seat capacity of 180, of which all are economy," he said.

Mr. Shahabuddin said that the promotional fare will range from Tk 25,000-Tk 30,000.

Passengers can carry 20 kg to 40 kg baggage paying different amount along with seven kg hand carry luggage. They can also fly without meal and baggage charges if they wish.

The airline started operation in Dhaka with four direct weekly flights in August last year. Now it has been operating seven direct weekly flights from Dhaka.

Mr. Shahabuddin observed that a huge vacuum of 1,300-1,400 seats was created after four airlines suspended operation in Dhaka and Chattogram over the past couple of years. The airlines are - Etihad Airways, FlyDubai, Oman Air and Jet Airways.

"There are 0.75 million Bangladeshi migrant workers in Oman. The passengers from Chattogram will be highly benefited through this operation," said Mr. Shahabuddin.

Salam Air, launched in 2016, currently operates flights to 23 destinations, including Dhaka, Dubai, Doha, Jeddah, Karachi, Multan, Sialkot, Shiraz, Kathmandu, Khartoum, Alexandria, Riyadh, Kuwait, and Abu-Dhabi, Tehran, Istanbul, and Trabzon.
