CHATTOGRAM, July 03: The construction work on the Second Outer Ring Road Project of Chattogram is in its final stage now.

The project is likely to be fully completed within the current year. Despite it was scheduled to be done within June last, but it will be fully completed within December in 2026, concerned sources said.

Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) is implementing the project. Project Director of the 'Chittagong Outer Ring Road Phase II' project Engineer Rajiv Das said, "Almost all the work on the 9-kilometre-long four-lane road has been completed. Only half a kilometre of road work is left in the Kalurghat section and 100 metres at the Karnaphuli Bridge end. The work on this part is also in the final stage. We will soon complete the work on this part of the road."

He said, "The construction of the dam and the construction of the sluice gate are almost completed. Only one small sluice gate is left. Its work is also in the final stage. It does not have any regulator or pump. The construction of this small sluice gate will be completed in a couple of months."

He said the city's second outer ring road would be fully operational by December. "Various recreational infrastructures including roads, embankments and walkways will add a new dimension to the city's tourism sector,' he added.

To improve the quality of life and housing in the wider area of the city, the project, which is being implemented with the aim of protecting the city and reducing waterlogging, also has extensive arrangements for tourism and daily entertainment of the city residents. A seven-kilometre walkway is being built on the riverbank to provide a 'breathing space' for people.

Only 600 metres of road work remain on the 9-kilometre-long road from Kalurghat to Shah Amanat Bridge. Since the project has not been completed within the stipulated time, a new six-month extension is being sought. By next December, the road under construction will be opened to traffic with the aim of reaching the adjacent areas of the city, including Karnaphuli Shah Amanat Bridge, from Kalurghat in just 10 minutes.

A 9-km long embankment cum outer ring road is being constructed from Karnaphuli Shah Amanat Bridge (mouth of Chaktai Canal) to Kalurghat Bridge in the port city Chattogram to play an important role in improving traffic flow and reducing waterlogging. The project, which was undertaken at a cost of Tk 27.79 billion (2,779 crore), is being implemented as a special mega project of CDA. In this very important project, 12 sluice gates including regulators have been constructed along with the road. Of the 12 sluice gates, two are very important sluice gates at the mouth of Chaktai and Rajakhali canals.
