Md. Shawkat Ali Khan joined Sonali Bank PLC as CEO & Managing Director on Wednesday, says a statement.
Prior to joining Sonali Bank, he served as Managing Director at Bangladesh Krishi Bank. Earlier, he worked as Deputy Managing Director of Rupali Bank PLC.
Mr. Shawkat started off his career in Rupali Bank PLC as a Senior Officer in 1998. Having 26 years of diversified experience in banking, he worked in an array of departments, including Admin & HR, Industrial Credit, General Credit & SME, Agro, Rural Credit & Micro Credit, Foreign Trade Finance & International, Home Loan, Anti-Money Laundering, Establishment & Welfare, ICT and Law Divisions. He also served as the bank's CAMLCO, CFO and CRO.
He obtained BSc (Honours) and MSc degrees in chemistry from Jahangirnagar University and completed MBA degree in banking from University of Dhaka.
Shawkat Ali Khan hails from Sakhipur upazila in Tangail district.
