The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has halved the tax deducted at source on imported fresh fruits from 10 per cent to 5 per cent.
On Thursday, the Income Tax Wing issued a Statutory Regulatory Order (SRO) in this regard.
These fruits include fresh or dried oranges, fresh or dried citrus fruits, fresh or dried grapes, fresh or dried lemons, fresh or dried other citrus fruits, fresh apples and pears.
On 9 January this year, the NBR hiked supplementary duty by 10 per cent on import of fresh fruits. Currently, import of fresh fruits is subject to 25 per cent customs duty, 20 per cent regulatory duty, 30 per cent supplementary duty, 5.0 per cent advance tax, 15 per cent VAT and 5.0 per cent tax deducted at source.
