StanChart holds training for women entrepreneurs

Standard Chartered Bank (SCB), in collaboration with SME Foundation, recently organised a five-day training programme on "SME Business Management" for women entrepreneurs.
A total of 27 women entrepreneurs from different businesses such as elderly care, event management, jute and leather products manufacturing, catering, boutique shops participated in the training, said a statement on Saturday.
Shitangshu Kumar Sur Chowdhury, Advisor and former Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank, addressing the closing ceremony as chief guest emphasised on empowering women through easing of processes and policies for availing loans from banks and financial institutions.
This kind of collaborative training will create more skilled women entrepreneurs in the economy, he added.
Managing Director of SME Foundation Md. Safiqul Islam was present during the ceremony. He appreciated Standard Chartered's initiative to train women entrepreneurs.
Sabbir Ahmed, Head of Retail Banking, Standard Chartered Bank, said: "Women entrepreneurs have created significant employment opportunities in Bangladesh and have always been one of the key drivers of economic growth."
In 2008, Standard Chartered launched Orjon, a business instalment loan, for women entrepreneur-led businesses.
