Supply of edible oil will improve soon

Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin has assured that the supply of edible oil will be eased at the market within the next two days, says a press statement issued by the commerce ministry on Monday.

He came up with the statement speaking to the media after paying a visit to the Mohammadpur Town Hall Kitchen Market on Monday. Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan was present during the visit.

Replying to a question on soybean supply, he said there is no shortage of essential commodities. "But the supply of soybean is low at the market. The situation will be improved from today (Monday)."

In response to another question about the increase in soybean oil prices, Mr. Bashir Uddin said while soybean oil is being sold at a higher price, palm oil is available at Tk 25 lower than the government-fixed rate. He said that palm oil accounts for around 60 per cent of edible oil consumption.

Adilur Rahman Khan said that Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) is conducting mobile courts during the holy month of Ramadan to monitor product quality and prevent food adulteration.

Four markets were inspected on Monday and the operation will continue, he added.

Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman and Industries Secretary Md Obaidur Rahman were present, among others.
