Tender to be floated next month

CHATTOGRAM, Apr 18: A tender for the construction work of the second unit of the Eastern Refinery Limited (ERL), a project of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC), will finally be invited next month.

During a visit to the ERL on April 17, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit said once implemented, the new unit can refine not only Middle Eastern crude but also crude from other countries. He expressed the hope that the trial production will start in early 2029.

During the period of the interim government, the construction cost of ERL Unit-2 was cut by Tk 44.65 billion. A revised proposal for the project titled 'Modernization and Expansion of ERL Unit-2' was submitted to the Planning Commission for approval.

Talking to The Financial Express, new Managing Director of ERL Engineer Sharif Hasant said, "The government has taken initiatives to provide funds. The infrastructural construction of the project will begin only after the required funds are secured."
