A high-powered delegation of Thai government will visit Bangladesh next month to witness the ongoing development in the country's fisheries, livestock and agriculture sectors, said officials concerned.
Thai Ambassador in Dhaka Panpimon Suwannapongse has informed Fisheries and Livestock Minister Narayan Chandra Chanda of the planned visit. During the visit, the team members will get first-hand knowledge about Bangladesh's development in these sectors.
The Thai envoy has informed the minister that the delegation is interested to visit Bangladesh in the first week of April, a high official of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock told the FE.
"Their interest is a sign of global recognition to the country's gradual success in fish production," he added.
"The delegation members will visit different fisheries and livestock projects. Besides, they will also observe the development in the agriculture sector," he mentioned.
Thailand has been seeking Bangladesh's cooperation to develop 'Black Bengal goat' in that country.
"The two countries are likely to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for extending cooperation in fisheries, livestock and agriculture sectors," the official said.
According to the officials, Bangladesh has achieved self-sufficiency in fish and meat production in the fiscal year (FY) 2016-17, as the government has taken various measures in this regard.
Over 4.1 million tonnes of fishes were produced during the FY, exceeding the target of 4.05 million tonnes. On the other hand, 7.15 million tonnes of meat were produced during the FY against the target of 7.13 million tonnes.
