Thai trade show kicks off Mar 27

FE Report | March 25, 2019 00:00:00

A four-day trade fair showcasing products of top Thai brands will begin in the city on Wednesday (March 27), aiming to strengthen economic and trade relations between Bangladesh and Thailand.

The 18th edition of the trade show, styled as 'Top Thai Brands-2019', will be held at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the city, jointly organised by the Department of International Trade Promotion, Thai Commerce Ministry and the Thai Embassy.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi will inaugurate the fair as the chief guest on Wednesday.

Minister Counsellor (commercial) of Thai Embassy in Dhaka Suebsak Dangboonrueng announced the fair at a press conference at a city hotel on Sunday.

Apart from Thai companies, local firms will also get an opportunity at the fair to enhance their trade and business, he said.

Referring to the trade gap between the two countries, Mr Dangboonrueng said, "Thai investment here hasn't reached the expected level yet. Therefore, the trade fair can be a good platform to reduce the trade gap."

This year, around 76 companies that import Thai products or act as local agent of Thai companies-both from Thailand and Bangladesh-will take part in the trade show.

Exhibitors will display various products and services such as bedding accessories, electric and household appliances, stationery, fresh fruit, food, textile & fabric, handbag, jewellery, confectionery, decorative items, cosmetics, baby care products and medicare services.

On the sidelines of the fair, Thai office of Commercial Affairs in collaboration with Sonargaon Hotel will hold 'Thai Food Festival' and present Thai classical dance during the fair.

The fair will remain open from 10:00am to 8:00pm every day until March 30.
