The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC) in Bangladesh and the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) of the Dhaka University (DU), in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) organised the finale and award giving ceremony of the 'HSBC-IBA Business Case Competition 2019' on Friday.
Three teams from Bangladesh have been selected as the Gold, Silver and Bronze award winners from a group of five finalist teams.
A total of 50 teams participated in the wider competition; from 22 universities in the country, said a press release received on Saturday.
The Gold, Silver and Bronze teams received team development fund of Tk 100,000, Tk 75,000 and Tk 50,000 respectively.
The gold award recipient is Team Inmates from the Faculty of Business Studies, Silver recipient is Team XS from the IBA and Bronze award receiver Team Dream from the IBA.
The gold team will go to Hong Kong to compete at a global platform of the same competition.
Banking Reform Advisor of Bangladesh Bank Shitangshu Kumar Sur Chowdhury was present as the chief guest while Francois de Maricourt, Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Bangladesh, Muhammad Abdul Momen, Director in Charge of IBA and Sudeepto Mukherjee, Resident Representative of UNDP Bangladesh, spoke at the programme.
Mr. SK Sur Chowdhury said the problem and the solution of the world are not now geographically confined. "Bangladeshi young minds now solve global problems which are thousands of miles away," he said.
He said the country's students have to be ready to face the challenges coming up in future which are unseen.
HSBC CEO Francois de Maricourt said the bank is committed to providing customers, communities and people with the skills needed to succeed in a global economy.
"It is an honour to be playing a role in nurturing Bangladesh's future business leaders and entrepreneurs, who in turn will play their part in building a prosperous Bangladesh."
The winning teams will participate in the regional final.
