The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has shown its interest to invest in the food processing sector of Bangladesh.

The Gulf country conveyed the interest when its Ambassador to Bangladesh Saed Mohammed Al Mheiri called on Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun at the latter's office in the capital on Tuesday, said a press release, reports BSS.

During the meeting, they discussed various bilateral issues, including trade and investment.

Nurul Majid Mahmud said there is an excellent investment-friendly environment in the country due to political stability and the government is providing all possible supports to the investors.

"Bangladesh has enough lands for setting up new industries. Power generation is also enough to meet the demand of industries," the minister mentioned.

Humayun said the UAE investors can make investment in any sector individually or in joint venture. In this regard, the industries ministry will extend all kinds of supports to the investors.

The minister urged the Middle-eastern country's investors to invest in Bangladesh's food processing sector for enjoying the huge opportunities of establishing international standard food processing lab and cold storage.

Saed Mohammed Al Mheiri said a certification institution of the UAE will run its activities in Bangladesh for ensuring international standard in the country's food processing sector.

Additional Secretary of the industries ministry Begum Parag was present during the meeting.
