United Commercial Bank PLC (UCB) has recently donated 10 new computers to Madhabpasha Chandradwip High School and College in Babuganj upazila of Barishal as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, opening a new window of opportunity for the students of this rural area.
Representatives from UCB's head office formally handed over the computers to the school's acting Principal, Jiban Krishna Bepari. The event was attended by politician Asaduzzaman Fuad, Governing Committee Chairman Dr. Pradip Kumar Sarker, along with the principal, teachers, students, local public representatives, and community members, says a press release.
In his speech, the Acting Principal said, "For so long, our students only read the word 'computer' in their textbooks. Now they can finally use them themselves. This is not just a set of machines; it marks a new beginning in improving the quality of education in our village."
Parents shared their joy, saying that sending their children to the city for better education is never possible for everyone. Now, with technology education available in their own village, they feel immense relief and renewed hope.
UCB's representatives stated, "We believe knowledge and technology are the most powerful tools for social change. Our initiative aims to ensure that the students of Madhabpasha are not left behind."
These ten computers may seem small in number, but their impact could be transformative. Students of this school will now have the opportunity to learn computer operation, access the internet, engage in online education, and build digital skills. As technology begins to illuminate more such villages, Bangladesh will continue to advance powered by knowledge and digital competence.
At the end of the day, one student from Madhabpasha Chandradwip High School and College said softly, "I used to think only city kids could learn computers. Now we can too."
Within that single sentence lies the vision of a future Bangladesh: a nation where opportunity belongs to everyone, regardless of geography. And on that journey, UCB's humane initiative shines as a bright and hopeful step forward.
