UKBCCI wants to invest in special economic zone

The British-Bangladeshi businessmen have expressed their interest to have an exclusive economic zone for them.

They also responded positively to a government idea of organising an investment summit in the country.

Members of the UK Bangladesh Catalysts of Commerce and Industry (UKBCCI) also expressed their interest to invest in various sectors of the country at a meeting with the Prime Minister's Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman F Rahman in the city recently.

Mr Rahman said businesspeople from across the world are arriving in Bangladesh in a significant number for investment as the government has offered various opportunities.

He also requested the British-Bangladeshi Diaspora to seize the opportunities.

Meanwhile, the UKBCCI has opened a bank account with the NRB Bank during their visit to the country.

The bank will extend all kinds of banking cooperation to them to facilitate their investment.

UKBCCI Chairman Iqbal Ahmed and NRB Bank Chairman Md Mahtabur Rahman, among others, were present during the opening of the bank account.

The UKBCCI delegation also met State Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Imran Ahmed.

At the meeting, UKBCCI President Bajloor Rashid said the curry industry in the United Kingdom (UK) could employ 30,000 skilled Bangladeshi chefs and workers.

He also proposed establishing a chef institute in Bangladesh to produce skilled manpower.

There are about 12000 restaurants in the UK, which are run by the Bangladeshi Diaspora in Britain, he said.

The UKBCCI delegation visited the country from June 14 to 21.
