Walton installs largest floating solar power plant

Aligning with the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), country's tech-giant Walton has emphasised the need for initiating sustainable green and renewable energy initiatives.

As part of its green initiatives, Walton installed one megawatt capacity's largest floating solar power plant at its headquarters at Chandra in Gazipur, thus marking a new milestone for a greener tomorrow through sustainable and renewable energy in the country's industrial sector, says a press release.

Mostafizur Rahman Razu, head of Walton's Environment, Health and Safety Department, said Walton's floating solar power plant has set an example in ensuring sustainable industrial development. Through implementing floating solar project, Walton is not only generating electricity but also marking a remarkable contribution in fish farming, land conservation, reduced water evaporation and environment protection.

After the electricity consumption at Walton factory, the excess electricity generated from floating solar plant will be added to the national grid through net metering system. This solar plant will generate electricity for the next 20 years with effective and sustainable manner, without endangering environment and ecosystem for the fish farm.

Since its inception, Walton has embedded green practices in its manufacturing processes with the aim of zero harm to people, environment and property, alongside achieving zero net carbon emissions. To protect the environment, Walton adopted various programmes including the use of environment-friendly gases, waste minimization and recycling, composting, application of energy-efficient technologies, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, installation of renewable energy, and water recycling.

A total of 911,823 metric tons of carbon-dioxide emission and 10 percent of carbon footprint have been decreased with taking those initiatives by Walton, creating a model of sustainable industry and social responsibility.
