Workshop on PPP capacity building

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Public Private Partnership Authority of Bangladesh jointly organised a daylong basic capacity-building workshop on Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) in Dhaka on Wednesday.

A daylong basic capacity-building workshop on Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) was held in Dhaka on Wednesday, jointly organised by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Public Private Partnership Authority of Bangladesh.

The workshop began with welcome remarks from ADB Country Director Hoe Yun Jeong who emphasised the importance of enhancing institutional capacity for implementing effective PPP initiatives, says a statement.

He reaffirmed ADB's commitment to supporting Bangladesh in leveraging PPPs for inclusive and sustainable infrastructure development.

The Chief Executive Officer (Secretary) of the PPP Authority, Muhammad Rafiqul Islam, thanked ADB for its valuable collaboration.

He addressed key procedural challenges and common misconceptions about PPPs, while also highlighting their growing significance in addressing modern development needs and attracting foreign investment. He noted that PPPs can play a vital role as Bangladesh moves toward becoming a middle-income country by 2026.

The Principal Secretary to the Chief Adviser, Chief Adviser's Office, M Siraz Uddin Miah, delivered the keynote address, reiterating the government's strong commitment to promoting PPPs as a strategic tool for delivering quality infrastructure and public services.

He remarked that effective implementation requires the right knowledge and capacity of implementing agencies.

The PPP Authority continues to lead in facilitating well-structured, transparent, and impactful partnerships between the public and private sectors, contributing significantly to the nation's development goals.

The workshop was attended by 38 officers from 24 government offices and departments.
