Boycotting Arab states don’t want negotiation: Qatar

DUBAI, Nov 14: Qatar's emir says the four Arab nations that are boycotting his tiny, energy-rich country don't want to negotiate to end the monthslong diplomatic crisis that has engulfed Doha. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani told members of Qatar's Shura Council on Tuesday that the four nations had tried to harm the country's economy and attempt to stop it from hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup. — AP

Astronauts get foods from earth-to-space delivery

CAPE CANAVERAL, Nov 14: Astronauts got a mouth-watering haul with Tuesday's Earth-to-space delivery - pizza and ice cream. A commercial supply ship arrived at the International Space Station two days after launching from Virginia. Besides NASA equipment and experiments, the Orbital ATK capsule holds chocolate and vanilla ice cream for the six station astronauts, as well as make-your-own flatbread pizzas. — AP

Dozens of security forces die in Taliban attacks

KABUL, Nov 14: Dozens of Afghan police and soldiers have been killed in a wave of Taliban attacks on checkpoints in Afghanistan, officials said Tuesday, as insurgents step up assaults on the beleaguered security forces. The raids in the southern province of Kandahar and the western province of Farah on Monday night came hours after a suicide attacker rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into a US military convoy, wounding four soldiers. — AP

Trump starts for home after ‘successful’ Asia trip

Koike steps down as party head

TOKYO, Nov 14: Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike, once seen as a possible first Japanese female prime minister, stepped down as leader of her party Tuesday after suffering a crushing election defeat last month. Vowing to do away with "old politics," the charismatic former television anchorwoman launched a new party in September that aspired to offer an alternative to the long-governing Liberal Democratic Party and its leader Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in the October 22 snap elections. — AFP

Israel deploys rocket defence amid threats by Gaza militants

JERUSALEM, Nov 14: Israel's military says it deployed a rocket defense system to the center of the country amid threats by Gaza militants. It said on Tuesday that an Iron Dome battery was deployed, without elaborating. The system defends against short-range rockets, and intercepted hundreds of projectiles fired by Palestinian militants during the 2014 Gaza war. The move follows a warning by Israel's prime minister and military to Gaza militants against attacks. — AP

Traffic chaos as protesters besiege Pakistan's capital

Militants-troops gunfights break out in Indian Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Nov 14: Gunfights between militants and Indian troops broke out Tuesday in two different places in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said. "Cordon and search operation turns into gunfight in Nowbug Kund Qazigund of Kulgam," a police spokesman said.
