Whistleblower's identity should be revealed: Trump
NEW YORK, Oct 15: US President Donald Trump on Monday insisted that the US intelligence official who filed a whistleblower's complaint that focused on Trump's call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy must be unmasked. Trump also said that the whistleblower should testify in Congress. Democrats in the US House of Representatives are conducting hearings as part of its impeachment inquiry into the president, which centres on the call with Zelenskiy. "We must determine the Whistleblower's identity to determine WHY this was done to the USA," Trump wrote in a post on Twitter. — Reuters
Prince William and wife meet Imran
ISLAMABAD, Oct 15: Britain's Prince William and his wife Kate on Tuesday met Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan, a former international cricket star who the prince played cricket with in London as a child. The royal couple, on a five-day visit, also toured a school and a national park in the capital Islamabad where they chatted with children and admired their drawings. The trip, which focuses on climate change and access to education, has been described by palace officials as the most complex the couple have undertaken due to security issues. — Reuters
Austria father, son jailed over mafia arms supply
VIENNA, Oct 15: An Austrian court on Tuesday slapped jail terms on a father and son for supplying hundreds of illegal weapons to the Camorra neapolitan mafia in Italy. A court in Klagenfurt gave the men, aged 74 and 48, jail terms of 24 and 20 months respectively. They were found guilty of supplying 820 hand guns and dozens of Kalashnikov assault rifles to the group since 2011. When the trial started, the pair had denied knowingly dealing with the mafia, insisting they had thought they were working with "vegetable traders". — AFP
Polls open in tense Mozambique election
MAPUTO, Oct 15: Voting got under way on Tuesday in tense Mozambique elections that are feared could test the country's fragile peace, after a heated campaign marred by violence and allegations of electoral fraud. President Filipe Nyusi cast his vote as polls opened at 7:00 am (0500 GMT) for his ruling Frelimo party, which has been in power for 44 years and is widely expected to beat arch-rivals Renamo, a former rebel group turned main opposition party. — AFP
