Hillary Clinton fractures hand on India trip
NEW DELHI, Mar 16: Hillary Clinton has fractured her hand during a tour of India, reportedly slipping in a bathtub at a luxury hotel in a former palace. A doctor at the private Goyal Hospital told AFP Friday that Clinton had undergone screening after suffering pain in her right hand following a fall. The 70-year-old former presidential candidate was staying at Umaid Bhawan, the palace of the former royal family of Jodhpur in western Rajasthan state, now a spectacular heritage hotel. — AFP
Vietnam marks 50 years since US massacre
QUANG NGAI, Mar 16: Vietnam marked 50 years since the My Lai massacre on Friday in a memorial ceremony at the site of the killings that was attended by survivors of the massacre, their families, and around 60 US Vietnam War veterans and anti-war activists. American soldiers killed 504 people on March 16, 1968, in Son My, a collection of hamlets between the central Vietnamese coast and a ridge of misty mountains, in an incident known in the West as the My Lai Massacre. "After peace was restored in the country, the people of Son My overcame pain with forgiveness and opened their arms to sincerely welcome US veterans here as a place of pilgrimage, a place to face the truth, face themselves and find peace of mind in a receiving land," Dang Ngoc Dung, deputy chairman of the Quang Ngai Province People's Committee, said at the event. — Reuters
Two die in blast at home in Pakistani border
QUETTA, Mar 16: A powerful blast at a home in a remote town in southwestern Pakistan near neighboring Afghanistan killed a Taliban-linked cleric and at least one of his family members, police and a government official said Friday. More than 10 people, including women and children, were wounded in Thursday night's blast in Qillah Saifullah town in southwestern Baluchistan province, according to deputy commissioner Shafqat Shahwali. The blast took place when a bomb or explosive device was being loaded in a vehicle, said Mohammad Yousaf, the police chief in Qillah Saifullah. Yousaf said some of the wounded were in the hospital listed in critical condition. — AP
Loss of lives as footbridge collapses in Miami
MIAMI, Mar 16: A newly-installed pedestrian bridge over a major road in Miami collapsed on Thursday, killing four people and trapping multiple cars below. The walkway, which connected Florida International University to a student housing area, went up less than a week ago. "We have located up to four victims. Four deceased," Miami-Dade Fire Chief Dave Downey told a news conference. — AFP
