Iran's new president takes oath today
TEHRAN, July 29: Iran's supreme leader on Sunday formally endorsed Masoud Pezeshkian as president, allowing the reformist politician and heart surgeon to take charge of a country weakened by economic sanctions over its nuclear program. During an endorsement ceremony, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei urged Pezeshkian to prioritize neighbors, African and Asian nations as well as countries that have "supported and helped" Iran in Tehran's foreign relations policies. — AP
5,000 rescued from flooding in North

SEOUL, July 29: More than 5,000 people isolated by flooding in northwest North Korea were rescued in airlifts and other evacuation work supervised by leader Kim Jong Un, state media reported Monday. Heavy rainfall on Saturday had caused a river on the North Korean-Chinese border to exceed a dangerous level and created "a grave crisis," the official Korean Central News Agency said. — AP
