Two shootings leave one dead in US

HOUSTON, June 24: Two shootings happened on Sunday in Dallas, Texas, the United States, left one dead and two injured, local police said. A 28-year-old man was fatally shot early Sunday outside a Dallas strip club. According to police, the victim and the suspect were in the parking lot near the club when the suspect opened fire around 12:45 am.No details about the gunman have been released. — Xinhua

Spain rescues nearly 300 migrants in two days

MADRID, June 24: Spain's maritime rescue service says it picked up 290 migrants over the weekend while they attempted to cross the Mediterranean Sea in small boats unfit for open water. The rescue service said it pulled a total of 153 migrants from four boats on Saturday, and another 137 from four more boats on Sunday. All the rescues took place in either the Strait of Gibraltar or in waters further east. — AP

Indian asylum seeker faces charges over suicide bid

PORT MORESBY, June 24: An Indian man who tried to kill himself by setting fire to his room at a refugee camp in Papua New Guinea faces charges of arson and attempted suicide, police have told AFP. Punjabi asylum seeker Ravinder Singh, aged in his 30s, locked himself in a shipping container room at a camp on Manus Island on Friday and started a blaze that engulfed two other rooms before being brought under control. — AFP

22 perish in road accident in Cameroon

YAOUNDE, June 24: About 22 people were killed and several others injured on Sunday along the Batie-Baham road in Cameroon's West Region after a bus carrying them skidded and collided head-on with a truck, police said. "Nineteen people died at the scene of the accident and the three others died in the hospital where doctors were trying to save their lives," the region's governor, Augustine Awa Fonka told reporters. — Xinhua
