Romanian men sentenced for hacking US servers
ATLANTA, July 24: Three men who hacked U.S. computers from Romania have been sentenced to prison for a fraud scheme totaling more than $21 million, federal prosecutors in Georgia said on Tuesday. Sentences ranged from four years and three months to eight years and two months for the men, who all are from Ploiesti (ploy-ESH-tee), Romania, U.S. Attorney Byung J. "BJay" Pak of Atlanta said in a news release. "We are warning cyber-criminals no matter where they reside, that this office and our law-enforcement partners are committed to finding you, extraditing you to this district, and prosecuting you," Pak said. — AP
Abe apologises to families of leprosy patients
TOKYO, July 24: Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Wednesday apologised to family members of former leprosy patients who were discriminated against and suffered immeasurably under the state's former controversial segregation policy. "I deeply apologize as prime minister and as representing the government for having forced you to endure pain and hardship for a long time in your precious life," the Japanese leader said. "The government as a whole will work with you toward eradicating discrimination and prejudice," Abe told the family members, while offering a deep bow. —Xinhua
Malaysian ex-king divorces former Miss Moscow
KUALA LUMPUR, July 24: Malaysia's former king has divorced a Russian ex-beauty queen just months after news of their wedding emerged and he abdicated in a first for the country, his lawyer said. The former Miss Moscow, however, says she is still married to Sultan Muhammad V, and has continued to post pictures of the couple on social media. The sultan stepped aside as Malaysia's monarch in January after just two years on the throne when reports of the marriage surfaced last year while he was officially on medical leave. — AFP

JERUSALEM, July 24: Israeli researchers have discovered a magnificent staircase that dates back to 3,500 years ago in the northern part of Israel, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem reported on Wednesday. The stairs were discovered during excavations to expose the palace of Hazor, which was the largest and most important Canaanite city in the Levant (the eastern part of the Mediterranean basin). — Xinhua
