London murder reignites fears over women's safety

LONDON, Sept 24: The murder of a 28-year-old teacher in a London park has reignited a national conversation over women's safety, six months after the death of Sarah Everard, who was killed by a police officer, topped the United Kingdom's political agenda. Sabina Nessa, a primary school teacher, was killed a week ago on the evening of September 17 while walking in Cator Park in Kidbrooke, an area in the capital's southeastern Borough of Greenwich. Her body was found by police officers in Cator Park. On Thursday, a 38-year-old man was arrested in London on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody. — Al Jazeera

China, Brunei vow to enhance parliamentary ties

Both sides pledged to enhance exchanges between their legislative bodies. Kim Yo-jong says North Korea open to ending war

Pyongyang, Sept 24: The influential sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un says they are willing to resume talks with the South if it ends its "hostile policies." Kim Yo-jong was responding to a renewed call from the South to officially declare an end to the Korean War. Woman arrested over California blaze

REDDING, Sept 24: A woman has been arrested on suspicion of starting a Northern California wildfire that spread rapidly, burning homes and prompting evacuation orders Thursday in a rural community, authorities said. Workers at a nearby quarry reported seeing a woman acting strangely and trespassing in the area in Shasta County where the Fawn Fire was sparked Wednesday afternoon, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said in a statement. — AP

Singapore tightens COVID-19 curbs

SINGAPORE, Sept 24: Singapore said on Friday it will tighten COVID-19 curbs to limit social gatherings to two people and make working from home a default, in a bid to contain a spike in infections and reduce pressure on the healthcare system. Despite a rapid vaccination drive, the city-state has been seeing more than 1,000 daily cases this week, including 1,504 on Thursday, the highest number since the start of the pandemic. — Reuters
