Prince William meets Palestinian president
RAMALLAH, June 27: Britain's Prince William traveled to the Israeli-occupied West Bank on Wednesday to meet Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. William, on the first official British royal visit to Israel and the Palestinian Territories, will see Abbas in the West Bank city of Ramallah. The prince met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday in Jerusalem. — Reuters
Heavy rains affect 185,000 people in China
KUNMING, June 27: Heavy downpours since Saturday and ensuing floods have affected some 185,000 people in southwest China's Yunnan Province, local authorities said Wednesday. As of 11 a.m. Wednesday, heavy rain and floods had affected around 185,000 people from eight prefectures and cities across the province. One person was confirmed dead and three others are missing. The downpours also forced the evacuation of 1,087 people, according to the provincial civil affairs bureau. Floods damaged more than 7,600 hectares of crops and around 900 houses. — Xinhua
British authority evacuates homes as moorland fire rages
CARRBROOK, June 27: More than 30 homes have been evacuated near Greater Manchester in northern England as firefighters battle a blaze which has been spreading for days in hot weather across the hills of Saddleworth Moor. Greater Manchester Police said on Wednesday it had evacuated 34 homes in the village of Carrbrook to the west of the blaze. The fire has been declared a major incident. — Reuters
