Armed men kill Somali journalist
MOGADISHU, Oct 28: Armed men shot dead a radio journalist outside Mogadishu on Saturday evening, police and the journalist union confirmed. A police officer who requested not to be named confirmed the killing to Xinhua but noted that details regarding the shooting were still scanty. "We have the information that a journalist was killed at Elasha Biyaha. We are trying to gather more information about the incident," the officer said. The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) condemning the attack. — Xinhua
5.8 quake hits eastern Romania
BUCHAREST, Oct 28: A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck Romania's eastern county of Buzau on Sunday morning, the National Institute for Earth Physics announced. It was the strongest earthquake not only in this year, but also in the last 15 years after a magnitude 6 earthquake on Oct. 27, 2004. The earthquake was strongly felt in the capital city of Bucharest and many other cities in Romania. There were no immediate reports of injuries in the epicenter area. — Xinhua
Pak court reinstates Indian TV ban
ISLAMABAD, Oct 28: Pakistan's top court has reinstated a ban on the broadcast of Indian TV content following a petition from local producers. Pakistan's Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar announced the verdict on Saturday, overturning a lower court ruling last year that had lifted the 2016 ban on airing Indian content on TV or FM radio. The regulatory body for electronic media says the court's order was implemented immediately. — AP
Congo Ebola toll rises to 164
KINSHASA, Oct 28: The Ebola outbreak in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo has claimed 164 lives, according to health authorities. In mid-October, Congolese authorities said they were facing a "second wave" of the outbreak centred on Beni, a town in North Kivu near the border with Uganda. The epicentre had earlier been focussed on Mangina, a town around 20 kilometres (12 miles) from Beni. — AFP
London underground commuters faint
LONDON, Oct 28: Hundreds of commuters have fainted on the London Underground during morning rush hours, the BBC has found. Since 2016, 825 people have fainted or felt faint while travelling on the Tube between 08:00 and 08:59, Transport for London (TfL) data shows.
