Kremlin laments US 'unpredictability' under Trump

SINGAPORE, Nov 14: The Kremlin hit out Wednesday at the "unpredictability" of the United States under the Trump administration, saying it was causing "deep global concern". "The fact that America has become unpredictable lately is no secret to anyone," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Dozhd TV during a visit by President Vladimir Putin to a regional summit in Singapore. "Such unpredictability from the largest country, the most powerful economy in the world, is the subject of deep global concern," he added. — AFP

NASA wants people on Mars within 25 yrs

WASHINGTON, Nov 14: Deadly radiation from the cosmos, potential vision loss, and atrophying bones are just some of the challenges scientists must overcome before any future astronaut can set foot on Mars, experts and top NASA officials said on Tuesday. The US space agency believes it can put humans on the Red Planet within 25 years, but the technological and medical hurdles are immense. — AFP

EU border agency says migrant arrivals set to hit five-yr low

BRUSSELS, Nov 14: The European Union's border agency says 2018 is likely to see the lowest number of unauthorized migrant arrivals in five years. Frontex said on Wednesday that around 118,900 irregular border crossings were recorded in the first 10 months of the year, around 31 percent lower than the same period a year ago. Despite the steadily dropping numbers, EU member states are still bickering over how best to handle the arrivals and the dispute continues to fuel anti-migrant political sentiment across Europe. — AP

'Alternative Nobel' urges freedom for three Saudi activists

STOCKHOLM, Nov 14: The Right Livelihood Award - known as the "Alternative Nobel" - is appealing on Saudi Arabia to free three jailed human rights defenders and recipients of this year's prize. The foundation also urges that the kingdom stop "harassing and killing those who fight" for democracy. Ole von Uexkull, foundation head, says the three jailed Saudi men had "acted through peaceful means." Created in 1980, the annual Right Livelihood Award honors efforts that the prize founder, Swedish-German philanthropist Jakob von Uexkull, felt were being ignored by the Nobel prizes. — AP

Two perish as fire breaks out at building in Mumbai

MUMBAI, Nov 14: Two people died after a fire broke out at a residential building in Mumbai's Andheri on Tuesday night. The fire broke out on 10th and 11th floors of the 21-storey building, according to ANI report. The Disaster Management Cell of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said Mumbai had tried to control the fire before it turned big. — Xinhua
