SYLHET, Mar 11: Healthcare services at the Biswanath Upazila Health Complex are being hampered greatly due to shortage of manpower.

Besides, the polluted ambiance of the hospital buildings and the surroundings is causing much trouble for the patients and their attendants.

Some locals said although the newly-constructed building for a 50-bed hospital was formally inaugurated recently, the hospital authority has been continuing their activities at the old building amid a dirty atmosphere for reasons unknown.

As many as 44 posts of the total 154 at the upazila health complex had long been lying vacant for long.

Officially seven physicians are now working while only five were on duty last week.

Patient Ataur Rahman claimed they provide low quality food. They even prepare food in an unhealthy atmosphere.

"Nobody responded to repeated requests for changing my bed sheet even after three days", he said.

An official of the hospital said the overall situation has improved recently.

About the new building the official said, "We are yet to get the official approval for shifting to the new building."
