SYLHET, June 19: Two technical schools would be set up in the remote tea garden area of Moulvibazar district.

Providing mid-level technical and vocational education for the backward faction of the society is the main reason of the initiative.

Sites for the proposed institutions have already been selected primarily in Kulaura and Srimangal upazilas, an official informed.

The sites had been selected at Tilokpur non-government primary school in Kulaura upazila and at Kalighat Tea Garden Government Primary School in Srimangal upazila.

There are at least 20 gardens around these locations, the sources added.

Accordingly, the Prime Minister Office had asked the technical education directorate for taking required steps for establishing the institutions on the selected sites.

However, the Education Ministry will decide about the course of the technical subjects or trade courses.

It will help meet the demand of the tea industry, an official at the Moulvibazar district administration added.

It may be stated here that although there are only a few primary schools on the tea garden areas, there had been no secondary schools for ages as the tea sector people are considered backward since the inception of the industry, mostly in the hilly region.
