BOGURA, June 19: Farmers of the district are making extra profit from growing off-season cabbage.

Sources said off-season cabbage cultivation is gaining popularity across the district.

A good number of peasants said off-season cabbage cultivation is profitable but it requires more cost.

More efforts have to be given to control pest, they added.

Officials at the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) said cabbage is generally grown in winter but it can be grown round the year if the farmers follow the right procedure.

"We encourage the peasants to expand the farming", the officials added.

Farmer Sirajul Islam of Shibganj upazila said he has brought 23 decimals of land under off-season cabbage this season.

The grower expects a good yield,

Sub-assistance agriculture officer of DAE Faridur Rahman said some five hectares of land have been brought under the farming of the vegetable this season.
