A whey seller waiting for customers at Sherpur Ghopara of the district on Tuesday morning — FE Photo BOGURA, Apr 23: Sale of whey (Ghol) is gradually gaining momentum in the district.
Sources said the small whey traders are making a good profit as it is a popular drink in the area. Whey business is expanding in the area for its high demand. April to September is the high time for whey business.
Everyday more than 300 maunds of milk are being sold in the local bazar from 11.00am to 2.00pm. Each litre of milk is being sold at Tk 40 to Tk 50.
Around 24 to 25 kg of whey can be made from a maund of milk. Each five kg container of whey is being sold at Tk 500 to Tk 550 in retail market.
Besides, a maund of whey is being sold at Tk 1500 to Tk 1550 in the wholesale market, said Nimai Ghose of Gghospara village under Sherpur upazila.
President of the district Curd Making Samity Jointa Ghose said more than 5000 families of the district are engaged with the business.
