NCDP improves living condition for cultivators

NILPHAMARI, Sept 22: Northwest Crop Diversification Project (NCDP) improved the living of small farmers through diversified production of high value crops in the district.

DAE implemented this crop diversification project in the country's northern region to help targeted farmers groups increase their farm income.

Farmers groups were formed in the project through technology transfer and provide extension support in all the union council of the district.

On the other hand, farmers' groups were supported by credit for agriculture business and for efficient management of marketing their products.

The credit component is conducted by two NGOs-Prosika and BRAC-under close supervision of Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank.

One official of DAE said NCDP constructed one wholesale market in Nilphamari municipality and four growers markets in the district which promotes sound marketing network in the district.

ATM Arshad Alam Khan, district marketing investigator of Nilphamari, said 50 per cent shops in the markets were allotted to the farmers groups which were formed through training, technology transfer and providing extension support with a view to raise the yield of high value crops.

Sources said Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) marketing is conducting collect, collate and disseminate accurate and timely information on the price and demand of the produce and so on.
