UCD Jhenidah distributes Tk 1.07m among students

JHENIDAH, Aug 14: Urban Community Development (UCD) under district social services office, Jhenidah, distributed a total of Tk 1.07 million among the students of the disabled and downtrodden communities on Tuesday.

A total of Tk 0.948 million was given away to 131 disabled and poor students.

And Tk 0.126 million was distributed among the students of the downtrodden communities, including the cobbler and scavenger ones.

A total of 168 cheques amounting to the money were disbursed in four levels of education among the poor students.

Each student with disabilities got stipend in between Tk 6,000 to Tk 14,400 while each student from downtrodden communities received stipend ranging from Tk 3,600 to Tk 7,200.

Mst Taslima Tara (20), a disabled student of honours first year said to this correspondent, "My education would be stopped if I was not provided with the stipend."

Mohammad Hossein Khan, social services officer, UCD, Jhenidah told the FE that the students of terminal and backward communities are continuing their studies at ease with the stipends, adding that the learners are getting inspired to be able to buy education materials with the money.
