VGF rice distribution begins in Mymensingh

MYMENSINGH, June 12 (BSS): Rice distribution has started here under Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme among the poor and distressed people before Eid ul Fitr celebration in the district.

The District Relief and Rehabilitation Office (DRRO) sources said under the programme over 8,433 tonnes of rice have been sanctioned in 13 upazilas of the district.

The rice is being distributed among over 8 lakh 43 thousand listed poor people of the district.

Sources said under the directives of the Ministry of Disaster and Relief all the union councils have prepared the list and distributed VGF cards among the listed poor peoples.

Besides, cards are also distributed in 11 Pourashavas of the district.

A total of 431 metric tonnes of rice sanctioned for the listed 43,129 poor families of the Pourashavas. The municipalities are Mymensingh, Muktagacha, Trishal, Ishwarganj, Gouripur, Bhaluka, Gafargaon, Phulpur, Phulbaria, Nandail and Haluaghat.

Each card holders are getting 10 kg's of rice. District Relief and Rehabilitation officer Muhammad Hossain told the news agency that distribution of VGF rice has already been started in different areas of the district.

DRRO office sources said authority allocated 406 tonnes of rice in Dhobaura upazila, 619 tonnes in Phulpur, 676 tonnes in Tarakanda, 689 tonnes in Ishwargonj, 584 tonnes in Gouripur, 672 tonnes in Nandail, 799 tonnes in Phulbaria, 516 tonnes in Haluaghat, 717 tonnes in Muktagacha, 700 tonnes in Trishal, 689 tonnes in Gafargaon, 656 tonnes in Bhaluka and 653 tonnes in Mymensingh Sadar upazila.

DRRO said distribution of rice will be completed before Eid.
