Creeping moral bankruptcy

It completely defies our credulity when we learn about a schoolteacher, who abets physical assault of a rebellious youth. According to the media, this is what happened at a place on the outskirts of the capital. As the report elaborates, the said teacher demanded money from a petty vendor who sells his petty products in front of a school where the teacher is engaged in 'building our future citizens'. While going past the school, a college student witnessed the extortion and protested against it. Enraged, the teacher allegedly threatened the young man with dire consequences. A few days later, a group of local thugs swooped on the youth while he was going home. They beat him mercilessly, and left him on the road. Locals believe the said goons were assigned by the schoolteacher. The poor college student later died from the injuries inflicted on him.

The incident sparked a huge uproar in the neighbourhood. If proven true, it shows to what extent we have stooped in terms of moral standards. The moral bankruptcy creeping into the teachers is unconscionable. Their long revered image has already been blemished by a few criminally bent teachers. They have been found guilty of sexually harassing their own students. What this nation is headed towards?
