Direct banking between Bangladesh and Russia

October 24, 2018 00:00:00

President Donald Trump recently declared that the USA will pull out of the Internal Nuclear Forces Treaty that it had signed with Russia in 1987. The latter has warned that such a move can lead to serious consequences. In recent times, the relationship between Russia and the West has been very volatile.

Possibly due to these reasons, Russia is trying to strengthen its relationship with other countries in Asia, Middle East and Africa.

Russia is helping Bangladesh in implementing its nuclear power plant project. Bilateral trade is also growing. It is understood that during the ongoing Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, which began in Moscow on October 22, the two countries will explore the possibility of establishing direct banking through Taka and Rouble to facilitate bilateral trade.

Our government should brainstorm and consider other ways and areas where Russia can extend their support to us.

Dhaka.
