Kindness towards animals

September 11, 2018 00:00:00

Cruelty towards animals is rampant in Bangladesh. Often smashed bodies of dogs or cats can be seen on roads and highways. These were run over by vehicles while the poor animals were trying to cross the roads.

Also, young men and teenagers often torture dogs, cats and other animals that they come across. With the advent and popularity of social media, video clips of animal abuse and torture are finding their way into social media platforms. To get more likes and subscribes on social media, most young people record themselves while torturing animals inhumanely. They seem to forget that these animals are living beings and they can feel pain.

Most people are unaware that these activities are crimes and that they can face punishment.

Animal abuse also occurs in other forms. For example, nearly 100 chickens are usually stuffed into small cages and transported from outside Dhaka and other suburban areas to urban areas. As these are huddled up together inside the cage during excruciating summer days, some of these chickens die. Animal abuse occurs against cow, goat and other domestic animals as well.

This is wrong. Animals deserve kindness and compassion. Surely, awareness against animal abuse will increase in coming days as many animal rights groups are working towards creating a safer environment for animals in the country. Through social media and television, public awareness should be generated against animal abuse.
