'No-Facebook' Day

January 28, 2019 00:00:00

Across the globe, there are over 2.2 billion active users of Facebook as of January 2018. In Bangladesh, nearly 92 million people used the internet in November last year. From this number, 86 million use mobile internet. The number of Facebook users is increasing dramatically in our country and so is Facebook addiction.

From school children to street hawkers, almost everyone in the country seems glued to Facebook through their smartphones and other smart devices. The addiction is bad for most young people as well as adults. Some users are so addicted to Facebook that they end up spending four to five hours a day on it.

Addiction to Facebook can lead to many psychological and physiological problems. For example, researchers have found that Facebook can trigger jealousy and stress along with desire for attention and feelings of loneliness. Addiction to Facebook can hamper sleep patterns, affect eyes and can pave the way for more serious diseases.

To tackle this problem, a 'No-Facebook Day' can be observed, similar to 'No-Car Day'. This can help users realise how they are missing valuable moments of their life by spending time on Facebook. They can spend time with family members and friends, speak with colleagues and even go out and walk in the open spaces.

It is true that Facebook is a great way to remain in touch with friends and family. But a daily limit on use should be maintained by users.
