Tigresses win T20 series in Dublin

On June 29, Bangladesh women's cricket team handed Ireland a four-wicket defeat. This was the second consecutive win for the Tigresses during the Bangladesh Women's recent tour of Ireland for a T20 series in Dublin. Six runs were needed during the very last over. Sanjida Islam scored a six in the first delivery of the Over sealing the win for the team. Most of the runs during Bangladesh's innings were scored by Shamima Sultana (51 runs) and Fargana Hoque (36 runs). Bangladesh through this win took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The final tour match will take place today (on Sunday) in Dublin.

I think, this is a great moment for Bangladesh as the Tigresses never won any 'away' series before. While the news was covered by international outlets like ESPN, Cricbuzz and others, it was sad that our local media did not give the news the kind of exposure it deserved.

The nation needs to encourage the women cricketers so that they can continue to excel. If this is ensured, then it may not be impossible for them to bring home the women's cricket World Cup.
