Worn-out notes should be withdrawn

July 21, 2018 00:00:00

There are many torn and worn-out notes in circulation that even banks do not want to exchange or take. As a result, many people in possession of these notes face difficulties while handling them. I often get such Tk100 notes. Often shopkeepers, rickshaw-pullers, CNG taxi drivers and others do not want to accept these notes from customers. Although the Bangladesh bank has issued a notice that commercial banks will change such currencies, in reality bank officials give various excuses so that they do not have to take these notes and give clean notes in return.

In fact, in some cases, the worn-out notes are given through the ATM machines of some banks. When businesspeople withdraw money in big sums, they do not have the time to check each and every note. The Bangladesh Bank should take appropriate steps towards removing dirty and worn-out notes from the market.
