The ongoing hot and humid weather continued to cause sufferings to the people from all walks of life across the country on Friday also.

Though the temperature came down to 36 degree Celsius in Dhaka and its neighbourhoods from the 37.6 degree Celsius on the previous day, it barely provided any respite to the city dwellers.

The highest temperature of 39.1 degree Celsius was recorded in Sayedpur on Friday.

Despite a slight fall in mercury following scattered drizzles in some areas of the city, the percentage of humidity increased in the air, aggravating the city peoples' woes further.

In addition to this, frequent spells of load-shedding only heightened discomfort in some areas.

The temperature did not fall that much due to absence of adequate rainfall, which is somewhat unusual during this period of year, said Hafizur Rahman, a meteorologist.

"A low pressure in the Bay of Bengal is responsible for continued dry weather during the last several days across the country pushing the mercury upward."

The humidity in the morning was 80 per cent in Dhaka, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

A trace volume of rainfall (3.0 millimetre) was recorded in the capital on Friday.

Due to unfavourable weather, the city people were seen suffering from excessive sweating.

Many people were seen taking shelters under shades and trees in the greenery areas like Ramna Park, Dhanmondi Lake and Suhrawardy Udyan.

Among them, the FE correspondent talked with Saurav Ahmed, a private official, in the city's Ramna Park.

He said he came to the greenery to get an immediate respite from the ongoing scorching heat.

He also said although the day was a weekly holiday, he did not stay at his home.

"We also faced load-shedding on several occasions, which caused immense sufferings, as ceiling fans and air conditioners stopped working for the power outage," he added.

Commoners were also seen buying cold drinks, beverages and juicy fruits to get some respite.

However, the mercury level is expected to come down from today (Saturday) with frequent spells of precipitation, said meteorologist Hafizur Rahman.

"We are expecting a usual monsoon this week," he noted.

The BMD weather forecast on Friday evening said the rate of rainfall may increase in Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chottogram and Sylhet in the coming days.

The temperature may decrease two-three degree Celsius in most of the regions across the country, it added.
