The armed forces will be deployed for 10 days from December 24 in the forthcoming national election slated for December 30, said Election Commission Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed Thursday night. "The armed forces will be kept deployed as the striking force from December 24 to January 2," he told reporters replying to a question.The EC took the decision after its meeting over the election security held at the Nirbachan Bhaban with Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda in the chair. — UNB

Two accidents kill six
At least six people were killed in two road accidents Thursday in Mymensingh and Chuadanga. In Mymensingh, at least three people were killed and another injured when a covered van ran over them on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at Shikarikanda in the district. In Chuadanga, three people, including two brothers, were killed in a road crash on Chuadanga-Meherpur road at Kulpala village. — UNB
