PM to open 2nd Kanchpur Bridge today
Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the second Kanchpur Bridge on the river Shitalakkhya today (Saturday). "The Prime Minister will open the four-lane bridge through a video-conference from her official Gonobhaban residence in the capital on Saturday morning," PMO officials said. Through the video-conference, Sheikh Hasina will also inaugurate a four-lane flyover at Bhulta and a railway overpass at Latifpur on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway. The 400-metre-long and 18-meter-wide second Kanchpur Bridge will reduce gridlock on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway. The bridge construction work has been completed nearly four months ahead of the deadline (June 2019). — BSS
Each Hajj pilgrim can carry $1,000
A pilgrim can carry up to US$ 1,000 or equivalent currencies while performing the next Hajj, according to a circular of the Bangladesh Bank (BB). The amount is completely out of the overall expenses estimated by the ministry concerned for performing the next Hajj, according to the circular issued on Thursday. The next Hajj may take place on August 10 depending on the sighting of the moon. A total of 1,27,198 Bangladeshi citizens will go to Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj this year, including 7,198 under the government management. — BSS
Road accident kills three in Manikganj
Three people were killed after a truck hit a pick-up van on Dhaka-Aricha Highway at Nayadingi in Saturia upazila under Manikganj on Friday. The deceased were identified as pick-up van driver Chan Mia, 28, from Rangpur, Zillur Rahmn, 30, and Hamidur Rahman, 30, of Jashore's Keshabpur upazila. Highway police said the accident took place at around 7:30 am. — UNB
